Questions and answers

Is Bernat Blanket Extra Thick worth it?
Yes if you want a fast, plush blanket and don't mind simple stitches. At $14.00 at Etsy as of November 4, 2026, it is a reasonable price for a 1.3 lb jumbo skein.
What size needles or hook does it need?
It is a jumbo-weight yarn, so plan on very large needles or a big hook, typically in the 15–25 mm range, or use your hands for arm knitting. Check your pattern's gauge before buying.
How does it compare to regular Bernat Blanket?
Extra Thick is chunkier than standard Bernat Blanket, so it works up faster and needs bigger tools. Standard Blanket gives more stitch options and finer detail.
Is it machine washable?
Yes. It is 100% polyester, so it can be machine washed and dried on gentle settings. Use a mesh bag and low heat to limit pilling.
How many skeins do I need for a blanket?
It depends on size and gauge, but a throw often takes several 1.3 lb skeins. Buy all skeins at once so the shades match.
When is it cheapest?
Prices vary by store and sales. Compare the five stores listing it new and watch for craft-store promotions, since the $14.00 Etsy price as of November 4, 2026 may not be the lowest later.
