No. R-1 is low; the product works mainly by reflecting radiant heat and blocking vapor. Use it over or under real insulation, not as the only layer in a heated space.

Does it need an air gap to work?

Yes. The foil reflects about 97% of radiant heat only when installed with at least a 1/4-inch air space facing the gap. Pressed flat against a surface, it mostly acts as a vapor barrier.

Will the 50-inch roll fit my 48-inch framing?

Uses

2mm BlueTex™ Pro 50" is designed with tubular steel style or any building frame that has 48" OC framing but it's particularly great on wood frame construction. This wide roll will create a full 2” overlap for a fast & easy installation to the frame or the bottom of the purlins. Ideally our 50" wide will be installed vertically with room on both sides for fastening and overlap, but you can install it horizontally if you prefer. BlueTex™ insulation is ideal for covering up old, falling, and crumbling insulation under the roofline too, or for holding up blown-in insulation. This is also a great product to put on a commercial roll up garage door to block heat or stop condensation.

BlueTex™ 2mm Pro 50" Wide is an EPE foam product combined with 97% reflective pure aluminum foil to REFLECT radiant hea t with a glossy bright white interior finish in metal buildings, barns, sheds, garages, airplane hangars, agriculture facilities, etc. They can easily span 4' framing on new & existing construction. Warm or mild climates will benefit from the radiant barrier layer and the 2mm creates an excellent vapor barrier, when installed properly. The foil surface, when installed with a ¼" or more air space, blocks 97% of radiant heat and the foam core helps to stop condensation when BlueTex™ is installed air tight .
