Bose Virtually Invisible 300 Wireless Surround Speakers

Our take on the Bose Virtually Invisible 300 Wireless Surround Speakers

The Bose Virtually Invisible 300 are a pair of compact wireless surround speakers designed to add rear channels to a Bose Soundbar 300/500/700 or SoundTouch system. They are small enough to wall-mount and blend into a room, and they connect to the Bose bass module or soundbar wirelessly rather than running speaker cable across the floor. They are not standalone Bluetooth speakers, so they only make sense if you already own a compatible Bose soundbar. The latest best price sits near the low end of its recent range, which is a reasonable time to buy if you want rear channels without wires.

Questions and answers

Do I need a Bose soundbar to use these?

Yes. They pair wirelessly with a compatible Bose soundbar or SoundTouch system and will not work as standalone speakers. Check that your soundbar model supports the Virtually Invisible 300 before buying.

Are they really wireless?

They need power from a wall outlet, but the audio link to the soundbar is wireless, so you don't run speaker cable to the rear of the room. That is the main reason to choose them over wired surrounds.

Can I use them as Bluetooth speakers?

No. They have no Bluetooth or RCA input of their own; the Bluetooth and RCA connectivity in the specs refers to the Bose system they pair with. They only play rear-channel audio from a compatible Bose soundbar.

Do I need a Bose bass module too?

Not strictly, but they are designed to work alongside a Bose bass module, and without one the low end is thin. Most buyers pair them with the soundbar and bass module for a full 5.1 setup.

Are they worth it over cheaper surrounds?

If you already own a Bose soundbar and want rear channels without running cable, yes. If you are starting from scratch, a soundbar-plus-sub bundle or a wired home theater setup usually gives more sound per dollar.

When is the best time to buy?

Prices dip during Black Friday and Bose's seasonal sales, and the current best price is already near the low end of its recent range. Waiting for a deeper cut is unlikely to save much.
