Our take on the Caron Cloud Cakes Yarn Skein - Cinnamon Swirl

Caron Cloud Cakes is a worsted-weight (category 4) polyester yarn sold in large 8.5 oz cakes with about 720 yards per skein. Its brushed, fleecy texture gives finished fabric a soft, airy hand, and it is machine washable and dryable. Cinnamon Swirl is a variegated colorway that shifts as you work. At $12.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, the best new price sits at the low end of what the four new listings charge.

Best forBlankets and throws on a budgetSoft garments and shawlsKnitters and crocheters who want few joinsGift projects that need easy care
Pros
  • Large 8.5 oz cake with roughly 720 yards, so fewer joins
  • Soft brushed texture that feels plush
  • Machine wash and dry, no special handling
  • Worsted weight works with common US 7 / 4.5 mm hooks and needles
  • Variegated colorway adds visual interest without changing yarn
Cons
  • 100% polyester, so it lacks wool's warmth and breathability
  • Brushed texture can pill and shed with friction
  • Variegated color may pool or stripe unevenly depending on gauge
  • Cinnamon Swirl shade can vary by dye lot
  • Gauge listed inconsistently across sources, so swatch first

Questions and answers

Is Caron Cloud Cakes worth it?
At $12.99 for 8.5 oz and about 720 yards, it is a lot of soft yarn for the money. Choose it if you want a plush, easy-care synthetic; skip it if you need wool warmth or crisp stitch definition.
How does it compare to regular Caron Cakes?
Cloud Cakes uses a brushed, airy polyester instead of the acrylic blend in standard Cakes, so it feels softer and fuzzier. Standard Cakes hold stitch definition better; Cloud Cakes is better for drapey, cozy projects.
What hook and needle size should I use?
The label lists US 7 (4.5 mm) for both knitting and crochet, with a knitting gauge of 16 stitches per 4 inches. Swatch before starting, since the listed gauges vary between sources.
Can I machine wash and dry it?
Yes. Machine wash cool on delicate, do not bleach, and tumble dry low on delicate. Do not iron or dry clean.
How much yarn is in one skein?
One skein is 8.5 oz (240 g) and about 720 yards (658 m). That is enough for a small shawl or a baby blanket, but a full adult blanket takes several skeins.
When is the price lowest?
The best new price seen is $12.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, against four new listings. Watch for sales around craft-season promotions and compare per-skein prices when buying multiples.
Where is the Caron Cloud Cakes Yarn Skein - Cinnamon Swirl cheapest?
At eBay, for $12.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Caron Cloud Cakes Yarn Skein - Cinnamon Swirl?
