Is 18kW enough for a whole house?

Usually not. At 240V it heats about 3 to 3.5 gpm with warm inlet water, so it suits one fixture or a small apartment. A family home in a cold climate needs 24kW or more, or a tank.

What electrical setup does it need?

A dedicated 240V circuit sized for roughly 75 amps, plus adequate wire gauge and breaker capacity. Many homes need a panel upgrade, so have an electrician check before buying.

Does it work in cold climates?

It works but output falls. Groundwater near 40°F cuts flow to roughly 1.5 to 2 gpm at a usable shower temperature, so it is best for warm regions or single low-flow fixtures.

How hot can the water get?

The maximum is 140°F. That is fine for showers and dishwashing, but check local codes if you need higher delivery temperatures.

The unit itself. Mounting hardware, fittings and the electrical supply are typically not included, so budget for those and for installation.

Tankless heaters usually dip during spring and early summer, outside the cold-season rush, and around major sales events. Compare store prices and the price history before buying.

Our take on the Casa Home Living 18kW Tankless Electric Water Heater

The Casa Home Living 18kW is a tankless electric water heater that hard-wires to a 240V circuit and heats water on demand instead of storing it in a tank. At 18kW it delivers roughly 3.0 to 3.5 gallons per minute of hot water in warm climates, less in cold groundwater, and it caps output at 140°F. It is a compact point-of-use or small-home unit, not a whole-house replacement for a family in a cold region.
