Is the Ceilume Cambridge good for a basement ceiling?

Yes, if you want a moisture-resistant, washable tile. Vinyl handles damp better than mineral fiber. Keep in mind it absorbs little sound, so a noisy basement may echo.

How much sound does it absorb?

Not much. Its NRC is 0.15, which is low for a ceiling tile. For a quieter room, look for tiles with an NRC of 0.55 or higher.

Will it fit my existing grid?

It fits 1" standard grid and 9/16" slimline grid. The tile measures 23.875" wide by 2' x 4', the usual size for a drop grid.

Can I glue it directly to a ceiling?

Yes. Ceilume lists direct mounting with adhesive as an option, so you can skip the grid. The tile weighs about 0.9 lb, which makes overhead work easier.

Yes. It is Class A fire-rated per ASTM E84-12c, the rating most residential and commercial codes want for ceiling tile.

How bright will the ceiling look?

Its light reflectance is 33.5%, so it reflects about a third of the light hitting it. That is dimmer than white mineral tile, which often runs above 80%.

Our take on the Ceilume Cambridge

The Ceilume Cambridge is a 2' x 4' vinyl drop-ceiling tile with a square edge, made to fit standard 1" grid or 9/16" slimline grid. It is Class A fire-rated and light at about 0.9 lb per tile, so it installs easily and can also be glued directly to a ceiling. Its acoustics are modest: NRC 0.15 and CAC 21, so it blocks little sound between rooms. At $43.29 at Amazon as of November 7, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against.
