Our take on the Coleman Skylodge Instant Camping Tent

The Coleman Skylodge is an instant camping tent with pre-attached poles that Coleman says set up in under five minutes. Its near-vertical walls give more headroom than a standard dome tent, and the 10 x 8 ft. 6 in. floor with a 6 ft. center height is sized for four sleepers. It is a three-season car-camping tent, not a backpacking shelter, and the frame is rated to 35 mph winds. It comes in 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12-person sizes, all single-room, with a carry bag included.

Questions and answers

Is the Skylodge worth it over a regular dome tent?
If you camp from a car and want a fast pitch, yes. The attached poles and vertical walls save time and add headroom. A standard dome is lighter and cheaper if you carry your tent.
How long does setup take?
Coleman rates it at under five minutes with the pre-attached poles. Most owners report a few minutes for the frame, with staking and guylines adding time.
What size should I get?
Buy one size up from your sleeper count if you use air beds or keep gear inside. The 4-person fits four sleeping bags tightly; the 6-person is roomier for a family of four.
Is it good in rain and wind?
It is a three-season tent with a frame tested to 35 mph. It handles light rain and breeze, but it is not a four-season shelter and needs full staking in exposed sites.
What is in the box?
The tent with pre-attached poles and a carry bag. Stakes are included with the tent; check the bag for them before your first trip.
When is it cheapest?
Instant tents usually drop around spring camping sales and end-of-season clearance in late summer. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.
