Is the Columbia Steens Mountain hoodie worth it?

At $45.48 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is a reasonable buy for a basic fleece hoodie with zippered pockets. It is not a technical mid-layer, so expect everyday warmth rather than serious insulation.

How warm is the Steens Mountain fleece?

Columbia rates it for light warmth. It works for cool fall and spring days or as a layer under a shell, but it is not enough on its own in freezing weather.

Does it fit true to size?

It is a regular fit with a 28-inch center back length. Most shoppers take their normal size, though some find it roomy enough to size down for a trimmer look.

Does the hoodie have zippered pockets?

Yes. It has two zippered hand pockets. There is no chest or interior pocket.

How should I care for it?

Machine wash it and avoid high heat in the dryer to limit pilling. Turn it inside out and wash with similar fabrics.

When is the best time to buy it?

Fleece hoodies like this tend to drop during fall sales and holiday promotions. The current $45.48 at Amazon is already near the low end of its usual range.

Our take on the Columbia Men's Steens Mountain Full Zip Hoodie

The Columbia Steens Mountain is a full-zip fleece hoodie in 250 gsm polyester MTR filament fleece, cut regular with a 28-inch center back length and waist-length hem. It has an attached hood and two zippered hand pockets, and Columbia rates it for light warmth, so it works as a mid-layer or a cool-weather outer layer. The best new price is $45.48 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, with 6 stores selling it new. That sits near the low end of what this fleece usually sells for, so it is a fair buy at that price.
