Is the Costway heated mat worth it?

For a single doorway or step in light snow, yes: it is cheap and needs no wiring. For a driveway or heavy storms, it is too small and you still need a shovel.

How much area does it melt?

About 20 x 30 inches, under 4 square feet. That is roughly one doorway or one or two steps, not a walkway.

Does it need a special outlet?

It runs on standard 120-volt power and comes with a 9.5-foot cord. You need an outdoor-rated outlet within that distance.

Can it stay outside all winter?

It is made for outdoor use, but the 90-day parts warranty is short. Check the cord and plug for wear and keep connections out of standing water.

When is the best time to buy it?

Prices on snow-melting mats tend to be lowest in late winter and spring clearance. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.

Our take on the Costway 20" x 30" Heated Snow Melting Mat

The Costway Heated Snow Melting Mat is a plug-in 20 x 30 inch mat that warms up to melt snow and ice on walkways, steps and porches. It runs on 120 volts with a 9.5-foot cord, so it needs an outdoor outlet within reach. It is a small, low-cost entry into heated mats: it clears a doorway-sized patch, not a full driveway. Parts coverage is 90 days, short for an outdoor electrical product.
