Our take on the Creality Falcon2 22W Laser Engraver

The Creality Falcon2 22W is an open-frame diode laser engraver and cutter aimed at hobbyists moving up from weaker 5W to 10W machines. Its 22W diode module cuts thin wood and dark acrylic and engraves stainless steel with a coating, and it runs at up to 25,000 mm/min with integrated air assist and triple monitoring. It works with LightBurn and LaserGRBL over USB and reads files from a TF card. It is a kit-style desktop machine, not an enclosed Class 1 laser, so eye protection and ventilation are on the buyer.

Makers who want LightBurn support without a big spend
Pros
  • 22W module cuts 3-5 mm plywood in fewer passes than 10W lasers
  • Integrated air assist keeps cuts cleaner and reduces scorching
  • Flame, tilt and limit monitoring plus five safety protections
  • Runs LightBurn and LaserGRBL, reads jobs from a TF card
  • Open frame assembles fast and fits a small workbench
Cons
  • Open frame means no enclosure: laser glasses and extraction are on you
  • Diode laser will not cut clear acrylic or bare metal
  • Aluminum frame is light at 6.49 kg and can flex on large panels
  • Fine detail at 254 DPI trails CO2 lasers
  • Fume output is heavy when cutting, so plan ventilation

What reviewers say

Owners of the Falcon2 22W generally rate it as strong value for a high-power diode laser, praising cut speed on plywood and the built-in air assist. Common complaints center on fumes, the need to buy an enclosure, and assembly or focus fiddling out of the box.

Pros
  • Fast cutting on thin plywood and basswood
  • Air assist included rather than sold separately
  • LightBurn compatibility and TF card offline jobs
  • Solid engraving on coated stainless and anodized aluminum
Cons
  • Strong smell and smoke without an enclosure
  • Focus and belt tension need careful setup
  • Frame flexes when moving large sheets
  • Safety glasses included are basic

Questions and answers

Is the Falcon2 22W worth it over a 10W laser?
Yes if you cut more than you engrave. The 22W module cuts 3-5 mm plywood in one or two passes where a 10W needs several, which saves time on batch work. For pure engraving on wood and leather, a 10W unit is cheaper and nearly as good.
Can it cut clear acrylic or bare metal?
No. Diode lasers pass through clear acrylic and reflect off bare metal. It engraves coated stainless, anodized aluminum and painted metal, and cuts dark or colored acrylic, wood, leather and cardboard.
What safety gear do I need?
The open frame is not a Class 1 enclosure. Wear laser safety glasses matched to 450 nm blue light, keep the machine in a room you can ventilate or duct outside, and never leave it running unattended.
Does it work with LightBurn?
Yes. It runs on LightBurn and the free LaserGRBL, and you can load SVG, DXF, BMP and JPEG files from a TF card for jobs without a PC attached.
What comes in the box?
The frame and 22W laser module, air assist pump and tubing, a TF card, safety glasses, and assembly hardware. You supply a computer or card reader and your own ventilation.
When is it cheapest?
Creality discounts the Falcon2 around major sales events and when a newer Falcon model launches. Watch the price history here rather than buying at list.
