Is this worth it compared with buying sand and a bin separately?

It saves you assembling parts: you get the bin, lid, sand, stones and tools in one purchase. Buying separately can be cheaper but usually means a larger bag of sand than a toddler needs.

The set is recommended for ages 3 and up. The stones are small, so keep it away from younger siblings.

How much sand comes with it?

It includes 2.5 lb (about 1.1 kg) of sensory sand plus roughly 4.9 oz of natural stones. That covers the bottom of the bin but does not fill it deeply.

Does the sand dry out?

Moldable sensory sand stiffens when left uncovered. Seal the orange lid between sessions and knead the sand to soften it.

The plastic bin with lid, 2.5 lb of sensory sand, natural stones, and construction-themed tools and play pieces. The bin itself measures about 14.6 by 10.2 by 4.75 inches.

Sensory bins tend to drop around back-to-school and pre-holiday sales. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.

Our take on the Creativity for Kids Sensory Bin: Construction Zone Playset

A self-contained sensory play kit from Creativity for Kids: a plastic bin with an orange lid, 2.5 lb of moldable sensory sand, about 4.9 oz of natural stones, and construction-themed tools and pieces. It is aimed at kids 3 and up and doubles as storage, since the lid closes over the play area. The bin measures roughly 14.6 by 10.2 by 4.75 inches, so it fits on a table or shelf without much space.
