Our take on the Cypress Forest Tile Set

The Cypress Forest is a 160-tile American mahjong set in premium acrylic, with layered soft green and olive inlays meant to echo hinoki cypress. It is sold by Mahjong Row & Co. as a design-led set that matches their racks, mats and accessories. The best new price is $425 at Wildflower and Rose as of November 4, 2026, with three stores listing it new. At that price it sits at the top of the acrylic-set market, so the finish and styling are doing much of the work.

Best forPlayers who host in a warm, minimalist roomGift buyers wanting a set that looks like decorMahjong Row & Co. owners adding matching piecesGroups of up to four who want a quiet, smooth shuffle
Pros
  • 160 acrylic tiles cover a full four-player American mahjong game
  • Multi-layer color inlays hold up better than printed faces
  • Layered green and olive palette is calm and unusual
  • Smooth, consistent shuffle from uniform acrylic tiles
  • Matches Mahjong Row & Co. racks, mats and cases
  • Dice bag and instructions included, so it plays out of the box
Cons
  • $425 is steep for an acrylic set; comparable sets cost far less
  • No racks, pushers or mat included despite the matching-accessory pitch
  • Acrylic feels lighter and less premium than real bone or Bakelite
  • Green-on-green inlays can be harder to read under dim light
  • Limited to four players, with no room for a fifth hand

Questions and answers

Is the Cypress Forest set worth $425?
Only if the look matters to you. The tiles are acrylic, not bone or Bakelite, so you are paying for the layered green design and the Mahjong Row & Co. finish. Plenty of full acrylic sets play the same for much less.
How many tiles are in the set?
160 acrylic tiles, enough for standard four-player American mahjong. The box also includes a dice bag and instructions. Racks, pushers and the mat are not included.
Does it work with Mahjong Row & Co. racks and mats?
Yes. The set is built to mix with Mahjong Row & Co. racks, mats and accessories, so tile size and thickness line up with their racks. If you own their mat, this set drops straight in.
Are the tiles painted or inlaid?
Inlaid. The color sits in multiple acrylic layers rather than being printed on top, so the faces should not rub off with use. That is the main durability advantage over cheaper printed sets.
When is it cheapest?
The best new price is $425 at Wildflower and Rose as of November 4, 2026, with three stores listing it new. Compare those three before buying; gift-season sales are the usual time for a drop.
