Our take on the Darco D9700 Electric Bass Strings

The Darco D9700 is a light-gauge, roundwound electric bass string set with nickel-plated steel windings on metal cores. Light gauge means lower tension and easier bending than medium sets, and roundwound nickel is the standard recipe for a bright, familiar bass tone. The best new price is $13.49 at Terry Carter Music Store as of November 7, 2026, with two stores listing it new. That is a budget price for a full bass set, well below typical name-brand nickel roundwounds.

Questions and answers

Is $13.49 a good price for these strings?
Yes. At $13.49 at Terry Carter Music Store as of November 7, 2026, this is a budget price for a full nickel roundwound bass set. Typical name-brand sets run higher, so it is a low-risk buy for a spare.
What does light gauge mean for playability?
Light gauge strings have lower tension, so they bend more easily and feel softer under the fingers. The trade-off is a slightly thinner, less stiff low end than medium or heavy sets.
What tone do nickel-plated roundwounds give?
Nickel-plated steel roundwounds are the standard bass recipe: bright attack with a warm, rounded body. They suit rock, pop, funk and most electric styles.
Will these fit my bass?
They are standard electric bass strings for a 4-string bass. Check that your bass uses a standard long-scale set before buying, since scale length affects fit.
How often should I change them?
Budget nickel strings usually lose their brightness within a few weeks to a couple of months of regular playing. Change them when the tone goes dull or tuning drifts.
What is in the box?
A single set of four Darco D9700 light-gauge electric bass strings. No tools or extras are included.
Where is the Darco D9700 Electric Bass Strings cheapest?
At Terry Carter Music Store, for $13.49, as of our latest check.
