Our take on the Design House Brookings Wall Cabinet in Espresso, 21-Inch by 36-Inch by 12-Inch

The Design House Brookings is a 21-inch-wide, 36-inch-tall single-door wall cabinet in an espresso finish over maple, with a Shaker door and soft-close hinges. It has two interior shelves and mounts vertically, so it works as a tall pantry-style upper or a standalone wall unit. It ships unassembled with the cabinet and assembly parts. It is a mid-priced ready-to-assemble cabinet rather than a custom or fully assembled one, so compare it against similar RTA wall cabinets before buying.

Questions and answers

Is this cabinet worth it compared with a fully assembled one?
It costs less than most assembled cabinets of the same size, but you trade money for assembly time. If you are comfortable with basic tools and want a matching espresso Shaker look, it is a reasonable value. If you need it installed the same day, buy assembled.
Does it come assembled?
No. The box includes the cabinet and assembly parts, and assembly is required. Plan for a few hours and a helper, since the unit weighs about 40 lb.
How wide is it, and will it fit over a standard counter?
It is 21 inches wide, 36 inches tall and 12 inches deep. The 12-inch depth is standard for upper cabinets, so it sits flush with typical wall cabinets above a counter.
Are the shelves adjustable?
It has two shelves, giving three storage sections. Check the shelf pins on arrival; fixed or adjustable placement depends on the specific unit you receive.
What is the door style and finish?
It is a Shaker-style single door in an espresso finish over maple, with matching espresso hardware finish. The soft-close hinge keeps the door from banging shut.
When is the price lowest?
Cabinet prices tend to dip during kitchen and remodeling sales in spring and around major holiday promotions. Track the price history here and buy when it falls below its recent range.
