Is the Desk to Easel Art Cart worth it?

It earns its price if you want one sturdy piece that serves as both a desk and an easel for several years. If your child only draws occasionally, a lighter tabletop easel costs far less.

How does it convert from desk to easel?

The top surface tilts up from flat to an upright A-frame position, and the legs adjust to set the working height. The side clips hold the paper roll in place in either mode.

Guidecraft lists it for toddlers and children. The 24-to-42-inch height range fits roughly ages 2 through 8, so it grows with your child.

What comes in the box?

The cart, five paint cups, a full roll of paper and side clips. Paint, brushes and other supplies are not included.

How much space does it need?

It is an A-frame easel at full height, so plan for a footprint similar to a small child's desk plus room to step back. It weighs 57 lb, so pick a spot you will not want to move it from often.

Art furniture like this tends to dip during back-to-school and holiday sales. Check the price history chart before buying to see whether the current price is above or below its usual range.

Our take on the Desk to Easel Art Cart

The Guidecraft Desk to Easel Art Cart (G51089) is a two-in-one kids' art station: a flat drawing desk that converts to an A-frame easel. The height adjusts from 24 to 42 inches, so it grows with a toddler into early grade school. It is built from MDF and beech and weighs 57 lb, so it stays put but is not something you move room to room often. It ships with five paint cups, a full roll of paper and side clips.
