Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX Cordless Combo Kit with Brushless Reciprocating Saw

This is a five-piece DeWalt 20V MAX cordless kit built around a brushless reciprocating saw, with the other tools sharing the same lithium-ion battery platform. The brushless motor on the recip saw means longer runtime and less maintenance than a brushed version. DeWalt's 20V MAX line is one of the widest cordless systems, so batteries and bare tools are easy to add later. Pricing moves with promotions and bundle changes, so compare the kit price against buying the tools separately.

Pros
  • Brushless reciprocating saw runs cooler and lasts longer than brushed
  • One battery platform covers all five tools and hundreds of bare tools
  • 20V MAX batteries are widely sold and often discounted
  • Kit format usually costs less than buying each tool separately
  • Lithium-ion packs hold charge well between jobs
Cons
  • Kit batteries are often smaller capacity than what heavy users want
  • Not every tool in the kit is brushless
  • Recip saw is the headline tool; other included tools vary by bundle

Questions and answers

Is this kit worth it over buying the tools separately?
Usually yes if you need most of the five tools and have no DeWalt batteries. If you already own 20V MAX packs, compare bare-tool prices first, since you may pay for batteries you don't need.
Is the reciprocating saw brushless?
Yes, the reciprocating saw in this kit has a brushless motor. That gives longer runtime per charge and no brush replacement.
Do the batteries fit other DeWalt 20V MAX tools?
Yes. All 20V MAX lithium-ion packs work across the 20V MAX line, including drills, impact drivers, saws and outdoor tools.
What comes in the box?
The kit includes five tools, the listed 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries, a charger and usually a contractor bag. Confirm the exact tool list on the listing, since bundle contents vary.
When is the best time to buy a DeWalt combo kit?
DeWalt kits see the deepest discounts around Black Friday, Father's Day and end-of-year clearance. Watch the price history and buy when it drops below the typical range.
