Is the DCS387 worth it if I already own DeWalt 20V batteries?

Yes, for light demolition, pipe and pruning work. It is cheap as a bare tool and uses batteries you already have. For heavy framing or all-day demolition, a corded saw or a full-size reciprocating saw is faster.

Does it come with a battery and charger?

No. It is a bare tool, so you need a DeWalt 20V Max battery and charger. Budget for at least one battery if you are new to the platform.

How does it compare to the DCS367?

The DCS367 is a full-size saw with a longer stroke and more power, but it is bigger and heavier. The DCS387 is the compact choice for one-handed and tight-space cuts.

What size blades does it take?

It uses standard reciprocating saw blades with a 1/2 inch shank, including the common Sawzall-style blades. Blade changes are tool-free.

How long does the battery last?

Runtime depends on the battery and material. A 5.0Ah pack handles short cuts and pruning sessions; expect much shorter runtime in thick lumber or metal.

Our take on the DeWalt DCS387 20V Variable Speed Reciprocating Saw

The DeWalt DCS387 is a compact 20V Max cordless reciprocating saw with a 1-1/8 inch stroke and a variable-speed trigger that tops out at 2,900 strokes per minute. It weighs about 5.4 lb and measures 14.75 inches long, so it fits one-handed cuts and tight spots better than full-size saws. It is sold as a bare tool, so you need a 20V Max battery and charger you already own. It is a popular pick for demolition, pruning and pipe cutting where a cord would get in the way.
