Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Kit and Fixed Base Router w/ FLEXVOLT 6Ah

This bundle pairs a three-piece DeWalt 20V MAX cordless combo kit with a fixed base router and a FLEXVOLT 6Ah battery. The 20V MAX line covers drills, drivers and saws on one battery platform, and the FLEXVOLT pack runs the router and other high-draw tools. It suits someone starting or filling out a DeWalt kit rather than buying tools one at a time.

Pros
  • One battery platform across the combo tools and router
  • FLEXVOLT 6Ah pack gives longer runtime on high-draw tools
  • Three-piece kit covers drilling, driving and cutting basics
  • Fixed base router is a solid step up from trim routers
  • Batteries and charger shared across the whole set
Cons
  • Bundle price is high compared with buying one tool
  • Router is cordless only, so runtime depends on the pack
  • Fixed base limits plunge routing without a separate base
  • Kit contents vary by combo, so check which three tools are included
  • FLEXVOLT pack adds weight to hand-held tools

Questions and answers

Is this bundle worth it over buying the tools separately?
Only if you need all three combo tools and the router. Bundles usually save money versus separate purchases, but compare the kit's exact tool list against what you would actually use.
Does the FLEXVOLT 6Ah battery work in all 20V MAX tools?
Yes. FLEXVOLT batteries are backward compatible with 20V MAX tools and deliver 20V output there. They run at higher voltage only in tools built for FLEXVOLT.
Can the router use the same batteries as the drill?
Yes, the router runs on the 20V MAX/FLEXVOLT platform. A 6Ah pack gives more runtime, but routing under load drains it faster than drilling does.
What comes in the box?
The listing describes a three-piece combo kit plus a fixed base router and a FLEXVOLT 6Ah battery. Check the listed tool names before buying, since DeWalt sells several different three-piece combos.
Is the router plunge-capable?
No. It is a fixed base router, so depth is set on the base. Plunge routing needs a separate plunge base or a plunge router.
