Our take on the DR String Neon Hi-Def Orange Bass SuperStrings 4 Strings

DR Strings Neon Hi-Def Orange bass strings are a 4-string set with a bright orange coating over a nickel-plated roundwound core. The color is the selling point: the coating keeps the strings visible on a dark stage and is designed to hold tone longer than plain nickel. At $32.99 at Musician's Friend as of November 7, 2026, they sit at the top of their recent range, so this is not a discount moment.

Questions and answers

Do these fit a standard 4-string electric bass?
Yes. This is a 4-string set in medium gauge, sized for standard-scale electric basses.
Are they coated?
Yes. The orange Neon finish is a coating over nickel-plated roundwound strings.
How do they sound compared with plain nickel strings?
Close, but slightly warmer and less bright, since the coating sits between the string and your fingers.

The coating is bonded to the string, but heavy play can wear it at the picking area over time.
