Our take on the Dream On 5-in. Gusset Feather Mattress Topper

The Dream On is a five-inch featherbed topper filled with white duck feather and wrapped in a cotton cover, built with a gusset so the fill stays lofted instead of flattening into a pad. It comes in Twin, Full, Queen, King and California King and is listed as a firm topper. The best new price is $87.99 at Kohl's as of November 6, 2026, with only one store pricing it new, so there is no recent range to compare against.

Best forShoppers who want to soften a too-firm mattressBack and side sleepers who like a firm, supportive surfaceGuest beds and spare roomsBuyers on a budget who want a featherbed under $100
Pros
  • Five-inch gusset gives real loft, not a thin pad
  • White duck feather fill at a low price
  • Cotton cover breathes better than synthetic shells
  • Available in five sizes, including California King
  • Firm feel adds cushioning without a sink-in softness
Cons
  • Feather fill shifts and needs regular shaking out
  • Dry clean or spot clean only, no machine washing
  • Feathers can poke through the cover over time
  • Firm featherbed may be too hard for shoppers wanting plush softness
  • Only one store lists it new, so price shopping is limited

What reviewers say

Buyers of gusseted featherbeds like this generally report good initial loft and a firm, supportive feel, but feather toppers draw complaints about shifting fill and feathers working through the ticking.

What people mention
  • LoftPraisedOwners say the gusseted construction keeps the topper thick rather than flattening out.
  • Fill shiftingCriticisedFeather fill migrates and clumps, so the topper needs shaking out regularly.
  • Feather leakageCriticisedQuills and small feathers work through the cover over time.
  • FirmnessMixedThe firm feel suits back sleepers but is harder than shoppers wanting a plush featherbed expect.
  • CareCriticisedDry clean or spot clean only makes spills and accidents hard to handle.

Questions and answers

Is a five-inch feather topper too thick for a mattress?
Five inches is on the thick side. It adds real height and cushioning, so check that your sheets still fit and that the added loft does not make getting in and out awkward.
Will the feathers poke through?
Feather fills can work through the cover over time, especially with heavy use. A mattress pad over the topper helps contain stray quills.
Can I wash it?
No. The care instructions call for dry cleaning or spot cleaning only, so use a washable mattress pad on top.
Does it sleep hot?
Feather and cotton breathe better than foam, but a five-inch layer traps more warmth than a thin pad. Hot sleepers may prefer a lighter topper.
Which size should I get?
Match it to your mattress size. It comes in Twin, Full, Queen, King and California King, so pick the same size as your bed rather than sizing up.
Is $87.99 a good price?
It is the only new price listed, $87.99 at Kohl's as of November 6, 2026, so there is no recent range to judge it against. Compare it with other gusseted featherbeds before buying.
