Is the Drolet Escape 1200 worth it?

For a medium room it is a solid value: EPA certified, 80% efficient and sold with the blower. If you are heating a large, poorly insulated house, a bigger firebox will serve you better.

How big a space will it heat?

Expect it to handle a medium room or a small open plan in a well-insulated home. The 1.7 cu ft firebox limits how much wood you can load at once, so it is not a whole-house heater in hard winters.

Does it qualify for the biomass tax credit?

At 80% optimum efficiency and 1.8 g/h emissions it meets the efficiency and emissions thresholds the federal biomass credit uses. Confirm the current rules and keep the certification paperwork.

The stove and the blower kit. Chimney pipe, stovepipe, a hearth pad and floor protection are separate purchases, so budget for those.

How long do the logs need to be?

Cut firewood to about 18 inches or less so it fits the firebox and the door closes cleanly. Seasoned wood under 20% moisture makes the biggest difference to smoke and heat.

Wood stoves tend to discount in spring and early summer, before heating season demand picks up. Compare prices across stores and check the price history before buying in fall.
