Best forRenters and apartments without a real fireplaceSupplemental heat for a living room, den or basement up to about 1,000 sq ftHouseholds with kids or pets who want a cool-to-touch, vent-free unitBuyers who want flame ambiance without wood, gas or a chimney
Pros
  • Infrared quartz heat warms people and objects quickly rather than only the air
  • Thermostat, timer and remote let you set it and forget it
  • 3D flame effect runs with or without heat for year-round ambiance
  • Vent-free and freestanding: plug in, no installation
  • Overheat protection and a design marketed as safe around pets and children
  • LED flame lighting keeps running costs low
Cons
  • 1,500 watts draws about 12.5 amps, so it needs a dedicated or lightly loaded circuit
  • 5,200 BTU is supplemental heat, not a whole-home furnace replacement
  • Infrared warmth is directional; large or open rooms may feel uneven
  • Flame is an electric effect, not a real fire
  • Stove footprint (24 in wide, 23.4 in tall, 13.07 in deep) takes floor space

Questions and answers

Is the Duraflame infrared stove worth it?
If you want a plug-in fireplace that adds warmth and ambiance to one room, it is a solid pick at $259.99 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026. It is not a substitute for central heat in a whole house.
How much space will it actually heat?
Duraflame rates it for up to 1,000 sq ft, but 5,200 BTU realistically supplements a room rather than heating an open plan. Expect the best results in a closed room of a few hundred square feet.
Does it need venting or a chimney?
No. It is vent-free and freestanding; you plug the cord in and turn it on. Keep it on a circuit that can handle about 12.5 amps.
Can I run the flames without heat?
Yes. The 3D flame effect works on its own, so you can use it for ambiance in warmer months without the heater.
What comes in the box?
The stove unit and a remote control are included. Check the listing for cord length and any mounting or leg hardware before you buy.
When is it cheapest?
Electric fireplaces usually drop during fall heating-season sales and post-holiday clearance. Compare the 5 stores listing it new and watch the price history rather than buying on the first price you see.
Where is the Duraflame Electric Infrared Fireplace Stove with 3D Flame Effect cheapest?
At Walmart, for $259.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Duraflame Electric Infrared Fireplace Stove with 3D Flame Effect?
