Is the Empire Tahoe worth it over a vent-free fireplace?

The Tahoe vents exhaust outdoors, so it does not add indoor moisture or combustion byproducts the way vent-free units can. That makes it a better fit for tight, well-insulated homes. The trade-off is higher installation cost for the venting.

How much space does it heat?

At 28,000 BTU it is sized for a large room, roughly 1,000 square feet depending on ceiling height and insulation. It works best as a zone heater for the room it sits in, not whole-house heat.

Can I install it myself?

No. Direct vent fireplaces need a gas line connection and a properly terminated vent through an exterior wall or roof. Use a licensed gas installer and follow local code.

Does it come with the mantel?

Yes. The listing describes it as having a mantel, and the unit is 43 inches wide, 34.7 inches high and 19.87 inches deep. Confirm the exact mantel and surround configuration with the seller before ordering.

Does it need electricity?

The basic burner runs on gas, but any optional blower or remote control needs power. Check whether your unit includes those accessories.

Our take on the Empire Premium Tahoe Direct Vent Fireplace

The Empire Tahoe is a wall-mounted direct vent gas fireplace with a black finish and an integrated mantel. It puts out 28,000 BTU and measures about 43 inches wide, 34.7 inches high and 19.87 inches deep. Direct vent design pulls combustion air from outside and exhausts through a sealed flue, so it does not need a traditional chimney. It is a built-in unit, so installation and venting costs add to the purchase price.
