Our take on the ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Left-Handed Electric Guitar

The ESP LTD KH-202 is a left-handed, Kirk Hammett signature electric guitar with a basswood body, bolt-on maple neck and a pair of ESP LH-301 humbuckers. It is the most affordable way into the Metallica guitarist's signature line, aimed at players who want a metal-ready guitar without the price of the higher KH models. At $429 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with only two stores listing it new.

Pros
  • Kirk Hammett signature at an entry-level price
  • Two ESP LH-301 humbuckers suit high-gain tones
  • Left-handed build, which is rare in signature models
  • Bolt-on maple neck with a comfortable thin profile
  • Fixed Tune-o-matic style bridge holds tuning under heavy picking
Cons
  • Stock pickups are serviceable but not a step up from budget humbuckers
  • Setup and fretwork can be inconsistent out of the box
  • No coil split or other switching beyond the basic three-way
  • Basswood body and plain hardware feel basic next to pricier LTD models

Questions and answers

Is the KH-202 a good first metal guitar?
Yes, if you play left-handed. It has humbuckers, a fast neck and a fixed bridge, which suits heavy rhythm playing. Budget for a professional setup.
How does it differ from the more expensive Kirk Hammett models?
The KH-202 uses a basswood body, bolt-on neck and ESP LH-301 pickups. Higher KH models move to set necks, better hardware and active EMG pickups.
Does it come with a case?
No. The KH-202 is typically sold as the guitar alone, so a gig bag or hard case is a separate purchase.
Is $429 a good price?
It is the lowest new price we have seen for it, at eBay as of November 6, 2026, with only two stores listing it new. That makes it a fair entry point for a left-handed signature guitar.
What amp suits it?
Any high-gain amp or modeler works. A small modeling combo lets you get Metallica-style tones without spending more than the guitar.
Where is the ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Left-Handed Electric Guitar cheapest?
