Is the ESP LTD Iron Cross worth it?

If you want Hetfield's metal tone and looks in a production guitar, yes. Players who mostly play clean or want a light guitar should look at other LTD models.

Does it have active or passive pickups?

It uses active EMG humbuckers, so it needs a 9-volt battery. Unplug the cable when not playing to save battery life.

Is a left-handed version available?

Yes, ESP lists the Iron Cross in both right- and left-handed versions. Check the listing's handedness before ordering.

How many frets and what scale length?

It has 24 extra-jumbo frets on a 24.75-inch scale neck. That shorter scale makes bends easier than on a 25.5-inch guitar.

Expect the guitar, a tremolo arm and basic tools. A case or gig bag is usually not included, so budget for one.

Signature LTDs rarely discount deeply. Watch for used listings and holiday sales, since only one new price, $1,599 at eBay as of November 7, 2026, is tracked.
