Is the Excalibur 5-tray worth it over a cheaper round dehydrator?

Yes, if you dry often. Horizontal airflow means no tray rotation and more even results, which round stackable units can't match. At $79.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, the gap over budget round models is small.

Does it come with a timer and adjustable temperature?

Yes. It has an adjustable thermostat and a built-in timer, so you can set the heat and run time and leave it. It does not have digital presets.

Yes. The thermostat reaches jerky temperatures, and the horizontal airflow dries strips evenly. Plan on a batch per five trays.

Our take on the Excalibur 5-Tray Food Dehydrator

The Excalibur 5-Tray is a horizontal-airflow dehydrator with an adjustable thermostat and a built-in timer. Horizontal airflow moves warm air across each tray evenly, so you don't have to rotate trays like you do with round stackable models. The five trays give about 8 square feet of drying space, enough for a batch of jerky or several trays of fruit at once. The best new price is $79.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, which is at the low end of what this model has sold for recently.
