We love this lift chair because as occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs), we see how much a roomy seat and a full range of positions matter, especially for bigger and taller adults. The 27.5 inch wide seat and 500 pound capacity give larger bodies real room, and the two motors let you raise your legs without tipping the back, so you can find a position that actually works for your body. It also reclines to about 180 degrees, which helps people who end up sleeping in their recliner. One honest note: the 8.5 inch footrest extension slides out with your feet rather than the motor, which some older adults find hard, so plan on a little help with it if needed. Some therapists don't like to recommend lift chairs because it often happens that people start using the lift feature and don't use their muscles to get out of the chair. And eventually they can no longer get up from regular chairs. We like to think about it a little differently. It's great to have the option if you need it, but that doesn't mean you have to use it. So get a lift chair only if getting out of the chair is already really hard, or there's been a time where someone's gotten stuck. And lift it only as much as needed to help get out of the seat.
