Is the Player II HSS worth $879.99?

It is a fair price for a Mexican-made HSS Strat with rolled fretboard edges and Fender USA strings, but it is near the top of its recent range. If you can wait, watch for a dip below $850.

How does it compare to the older Player Stratocaster?

The Player II adds rolled fretboard edges, a revised Modern C neck and new colors. Pickups and the alder body are largely carried over, so the feel is the bigger upgrade.

Is the bridge humbucker good for metal?

It handles hard rock and classic metal well, but it is a moderate-output humbucker. Players wanting tight high-gain tones often swap it for a hotter pickup.

What is the nut width and scale length?

The nut is 1.650 inches (42 mm) and the scale is 25.5 inches (64.77 cm), the standard Fender feel.

What comes in the box?

The guitar ships with Fender USA .009-.042 nickel-plated steel strings installed. A gig bag or case is not included at this price.

Fender and its dealers discount around major sales events and when a color is discontinued. Check the price history before buying at full price.

Our take on the Fender Player II Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar

The Player II Stratocaster HSS is Fender's Mexico-built Strat with a humbucker in the bridge and two single coils, giving classic Strat quack plus a fatter lead tone. It has an alder body, a 25.5-inch scale, a 1.650-inch synthetic bone nut and a Modern C maple neck with rolled edges. The best new price is $879.99 at Sweetwater as of November 4, 2026, with four stores listing it new. That sits near the top of its recent range, so it is not a markdown moment.
