Only if you already own Festool 18 V batteries and value cord-free finishing. A corded sander of similar size costs far less but drags a cord.

Does it come with a battery and charger?

Confirm what the $599 Amazon listing includes before buying. Festool sells many cordless tools as bare tools, with batteries and chargers separate.

How does it compare with a corded Festool sander?

The cordless model gives the same speed range and feel without a cord, but runtime is limited by the battery. A corded unit runs indefinitely and usually costs less.

What sandpaper does it use?

It takes 125 mm StickFix pads and paper, and the listing shows 80-grit Granat fitted. Granat suits wood and paint; use finer grits for finish work.

Is a 2 mm orbit enough for stripping paint?

No. A 2 mm orbit is for finishing and prep; for heavy removal use a larger-orbit sander or a coarser grit first.

Festool discounts are rare and usually tied to promotions or bundles. Watch the price history and buy when a battery kit is included at the same price.

Our take on the Festool Cordless Random Orbital Sander

The Festool Cordless Random Orbital Sander is an 18 V one-handed finishing sander with a brushless motor, a 5-inch (125 mm) StickFix pad and a 2 mm orbit. Speed is variable from 6,000 to 10,000 rpm, and it has integrated dust collection. It suits fine work on wood and filler, especially on vertical and narrow surfaces where a cord gets in the way. At $599 at Amazon as of November 3, 2026, it is a premium price for a bare cordless tool, so check whether a battery and charger are included.
