Is this cover worth it?

At $11.99 it is a cheap fix for an open or damaged crawlspace vent. It keeps out animals and debris without blocking airflow the way a solid cover would.

Will it fit my foundation vent opening?

It is made for 16 x 8 inch rectangular openings. Measure your opening before buying, since it will not fit other sizes without modification.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. It nails to floor joists or drops in as a foundation block replacement. Basic carpentry tools are enough; no masonry work is required for the joist-mount option.

Does it block airflow?

No. The spring-loaded flap opens with airflow and closes when idle, so the crawlspace still vents while debris and animals are kept out.

How does it hold up outdoors?

The aluminum body is corrosion-resistant, but the springs are the wear point. Check them yearly and replace the unit if the flap stops closing.

Our take on the Foundation Crawl Space Vent Cover

A 16 x 8 inch aluminum foundation vent cover that installs by nailing to floor joists or as a block replacement. The spring-loaded flap deters debris and animals from entering the crawlspace, and the mill-finish aluminum is corrosion-resistant for outdoor exposure. At $11.99 at Spence Hardware & Supply as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range across three stores.
