Is the Franklin Activator good for beginners?

Yes. It is a cheap first paddle with a forgiving 8-inch face. The 10.5 oz weight is on the heavy side, so expect slower hands at the net.

Is $10.39 a good price for it?

Yes. That is the best new price across 5 stores as of November 8, 2026, and it sits at the low end of the paddle's recent range. At this price it costs little to try.

How heavy is the Franklin Activator?

The listed weight is 10.5 oz. That is heavier than most mid-range paddles, which helps power but slows quick exchanges at the kitchen line.

What size is the paddle?

It is 16 inches long and 8 inches wide, an elongated shape. The length adds reach; the narrower-than-wide-body profile means mishits near the top lose more power.

Is it for indoor or outdoor play?

It is listed for outdoor play, so it suits park, driveway and dedicated outdoor courts. For indoor gym play, a lighter paddle is usually easier to control.

What comes in the box?

Expect the paddle itself. Budget paddles at this price rarely include a cover or balls, so plan to buy those separately if you need them.

Our take on the Franklin Activator

The Franklin Activator is an entry-level outdoor pickleball paddle with an elongated 16 x 8 inch face and a listed weight of 10.5 oz. The elongated shape adds reach and leverage on serves and drives, while the heavier weight suits players who want power over quick hand speed. At $10.39 at Target as of November 8, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent price range, so it is about as cheap as this paddle gets.
