Our take on the Gama Sonic 12W Solar Area Light with Motion Sensor and Timer

The Gama Sonic 12W Solar Area Light is a cordless outdoor LED fixture that runs entirely on its own solar panel, so it needs no wiring or outlet. It puts out 1620 lumens of bright-white 6000K light, roughly matching a 40W incandescent, and adds a 140-degree motion sensor with up to 40 ft range plus dusk-to-dawn and timer control. The IP65 housing mounts on a wall or a 2 to 3 inch pole with hardware included. Its best new price is $104.99 at Wayfair as of November 4, 2026, with 6 stores selling it new.

Pros

  • 1620 lumens is strong for a solar fixture
  • Motion sensor covers 140 degrees up to 40 ft
  • Dusk-to-dawn and timer modes cut wasted light

Questions and answers

Is it worth it over a wired floodlight?
If running power to the spot is expensive or impossible, yes. A wired fixture costs less up front and never depends on the sun, but this one installs in minutes with no electrician.
How long does it run on a charge?
Gama Sonic rates it for dusk-to-dawn operation on a full day of sun, with motion boosting output. Expect shorter runtime in shade or after several cloudy days.
Can I mount it on a pole?
Yes. It mounts to a wall or a 2 to 3 inch pole, and all mounting hardware is included.
What color is the light?
Bright white at 6000K, a cool tone. It reads as security lighting rather than warm patio light.
When is it cheapest?
