Is the Gamo Varmint worth it for a first air rifle?

Yes, if you want a low-cost springer with a scope in the box. Expect to practice your hold, since spring recoil punishes inconsistent technique.

Does the 1250 ft/sec rating apply to lead pellets?

No. Gamo rates 1250 ft/sec with lead-free alloy pellets. Standard lead pellets typically shoot slower.

What is included in the box?

The rifle, a 4x32 scope with mounts, and the recoil-reducing rail. Pellets are not included.

Is it good for hunting pests?

It has enough power for small pests at short range, but accuracy depends on the shooter and the hold. Check local laws before shooting pests.

How does it compare with a gas-piston air rifle?

A gas piston shoots more smoothly and can be left cocked longer. The Varmint's steel spring is simpler and cheaper but has more felt recoil and spring twang.

When is the best time to buy it?

Air rifles often drop around hunting season and Black Friday. At $129.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is the only new price tracked, so watch for holiday discounts.
