How is the Alpha LTE different from a regular Garmin Alpha collar?

Standard Alpha collars use VHF/UHF radio between collar and handheld. The Alpha LTE uses cellular service instead, so distance is not the limit but coverage is.

Does it need a separate subscription?

Yes. Cellular tracking requires an LTE data plan for the device, sold separately from the hardware.

The listing includes no accessories, so plan on buying a mount or collar attachment and a charging cable separately.

Can I use it with an iPhone?

It is listed as compatible with Android only, paired through the Garmin Alpha app.

No. It is not water-rated, so keep it dry and avoid swimming or heavy rain.

Is $299.99 a good price?

Only one store lists it new at $299.99 as of November 8, 2026, so there is no competing new price to beat. Check whether a plan is included before comparing.

Our take on the Garmin Alpha LTE

The Garmin Alpha LTE is a cellular dog tracking device that uses LTE coverage instead of radio to locate dogs, so range is limited only by cell service. It pairs with the Garmin Alpha app on Android and is built for hunters and owners who track dogs over long distances. It is small and light at about 4 inches and 0.1 lb, with an exchangeable rechargeable battery. The best new price is $299.99 at Walmart as of November 8, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to compare against.
