Pros
  • 12-inch woofer gives strong low-end for its class
  • Wood cabinet tends to sound warmer and more solid than molded plastic
  • Bluetooth lets you stream music without a mixer
  • Onboard DSP offers preset voicing and basic tuning
  • Tote bag included makes transport easier
  • Powered design means no separate amplifier needed
Cons
  • Heavier and bulkier than plastic-cabinet speakers
  • Single box, so stereo playback needs a second unit
  • Bluetooth adds convenience but not the reliability of a wired feed
  • DSP options are basic compared with premium powered speakers

Questions and answers

Is the VR412 worth it for a small band?
At $449.99 at Guitar Center as of November 3, 2026, it is a reasonable entry point for a powered 12-inch wood-cabinet speaker. It suits vocals and acoustic sets; loud rock bands may want more headroom or a subwoofer.
Can I use two VR412s as a stereo PA?
Yes. Each unit is self-powered, so two boxes give you stereo and more coverage. You will need to link them from a mixer or a second output.
Does it work without Bluetooth?
Yes. Bluetooth is an extra input; the speaker also takes wired sources through its inputs. Use cables for gigs where dropouts would be a problem.
What is in the box?
The speaker comes with a tote bag for transport. Check the listing for cables, as those are often sold separately.
When is the best time to buy?
PA gear tends to drop during holiday sales and post-NAMM clearance in early spring. Watch the price history for dips below the current $449.99.
Where is the Harbinger VARI VR412 12 Powered 2-Way Loudspeaker With Wood Cabinet, Bluetooth, DSP and Tote Bag cheapest?
At Guitar Center, for $449.99, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Harbinger VARI VR412 12 Powered 2-Way Loudspeaker With Wood Cabinet, Bluetooth, DSP and Tote Bag?
7 stores we checked sell it, including eBay, PayMore Point Loma, Guitar Center, Target, Walmart.
