Is the HP 14 good enough for schoolwork?

Yes for essays, web research, video calls and Office apps. It struggles with heavy video editing, large spreadsheets or gaming.

Can I upgrade the RAM or storage?

The 256 GB SSD can usually be swapped for a larger drive. The 8 GB RAM is typically soldered, so buy the capacity you need up front.

It is a 14-inch matte touchscreen at 1366 x 768. Text is less sharp than on a 1080p panel, but the matte finish cuts glare.

How long does the battery last?

HP rates it at 10 hours. Expect closer to 6 to 8 hours of mixed browsing and video, with Fast Charge topping it up quickly.

What ports does it have?

USB-C, HDMI and additional USB-A ports, plus a headphone jack. It covers a monitor, charger and mouse without a hub.

Our take on the HP 14" Laptop

The HP 14 is a budget 14-inch Windows laptop with an Intel Core processor, 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. It weighs 3.1 lb, has a touchscreen, USB-C and HDMI ports, and HP quotes 10 hours of battery life with Fast Charge. The 1366 x 768 display is the weak point: low resolution for a 14-inch panel, though it is matte. It suits light everyday work, not demanding apps.
