Is the HP Pavilion 15 worth it at $688?

At $688 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it is a fair price for a 15.6-inch 1080p laptop with a quad-core Intel chip and SSD. Check which RAM and storage tier you are getting, because 8 GB and 256 GB at that price is weaker value than a 16 GB, 512 GB version.

Should I get 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM?

Get 16 GB if you keep many browser tabs open or run office apps alongside video calls. 8 GB is workable for basic browsing and email but leaves little headroom.

Does the touchscreen cost extra?

Touch is configuration-dependent, not standard across the line. Confirm the specific model listing says touchscreen before buying if you want it.

How long does the battery actually last?

HP rates it at 8 hours. Expect less with brightness up, video streaming or heavy browsing, and more with light document work.

Is it good for gaming?

No. It uses Intel integrated graphics, so it suits casual and older titles at low settings, not modern games.

When is the price likely to be lowest?

Pavilion laptops usually see the deepest discounts during back-to-school and Black Friday sales. With only one store listing it new as of November 5, 2026, watch that listing rather than expecting cross-store competition.
