Our take on the HP 14" Laptop, Athlon Silver 7120U, 4GB RAM, 256GB

This is HP's entry-level 14-inch laptop with an AMD Athlon Silver 7120U, 4GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The screen is a 1366 x 768 panel, so text and video look soft next to 1080p laptops at similar prices. At $329.90 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, it sits at its only listed new price, with no competing new offers to compare against. It is a basic machine for browsing, email and documents, not for multitasking or heavy apps.

  • Matte no-glare 14-inch screen
  • Light at 3.5 lb
  • Rated up to 12 hours of battery life

Cons
  • 4GB RAM is the minimum for Windows and limits multitasking

  • Dual-core Athlon Silver 7120U is slow for anything beyond basic tasks
  • RAM may be soldered, so upgrading is difficult or impossible
  • 2.8 out of 5 from 76 ratings is a weak owner score

What reviewers say

Owner ratings are poor at 2.8 out of 5 from 76 ratings, and the pattern in low-cost HP 14 laptops is complaints about speed once several browser tabs are open. Buyers who keep to one or two tasks tend to be satisfied with the price and battery life.

Pros
  • Low price for a 14-inch laptop
  • Light weight and easy to carry
  • Decent battery life for light use
Cons
  • Sluggish with several tabs or apps open
  • Dim, low-resolution display
  • Feels slow out of the box with Windows updates

Questions and answers

Is 4GB of RAM enough?
For one browser tab, email or a document at a time, yes. With several tabs, video calls or Windows updates running together, the laptop will slow down and swap to the SSD. If you multitask, look for 8GB.
Can I upgrade the RAM or storage?
The 256GB SSD can usually be swapped for a larger one. The 4GB of RAM is often soldered on this class of HP 14, so check the service manual for your exact model before counting on an upgrade.
Is the screen good for watching video?
It is a 1366 x 768 matte panel at 60Hz. It handles casual video, but it is not sharp and colors are basic, so it is not a good pick for photo or video editing.
How does it compare with a Chromebook at the same price?
A Chromebook at $330 usually feels faster for web use and has better battery life, but it cannot run full Windows apps. Choose this HP if you need Windows software; choose a Chromebook if you mostly browse.
Is $329.90 a good price?
It is the only new price listed, at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, so there is no lower new offer to compare it with. Laptops with 8GB of RAM and a 1080p screen often sell for close to this, so compare specs before buying.
What comes in the box?
The laptop, its power adapter and paperwork. It does not include a mouse, sleeve or Microsoft Office license beyond any trial HP bundles.
Where is the HP 14" Laptop, Athlon Silver 7120U, 4GB RAM, 256GB cheapest?
