Our take on the IK Multimedia TONEX Pedal

The TONEX Pedal is a compact amp and effects modeler that runs IK Multimedia's Tone Models, which are captured profiles of real amps, cabs and pedals. It holds up to 150 presets, has onboard bass, mid and treble EQ, a noise gate, and six stereo reverbs, plus modulation effects like flanger, phaser and tremolo. MIDI in and out and USB let it sit in a pedalboard or a studio rig. At $299.99 at B&H Photo-Video-Audio as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent new-price range across the 6 stores that list it.

Cons

Questions and answers

Is the TONEX Pedal worth it over a multi-effects unit?
If you mainly want realistic amp tones, yes. It beats most modelers at this price on capture realism, but a multi-effects unit gives you more effects and routing.
How many tones can it store?
Up to 150 presets on the pedal. You load Tone Models from the ToneX software over USB.
Can I record with it?
Yes. It works as a USB audio interface, so you can record the modeled amp sound directly into a computer.
Does it work with MIDI foot controllers?
Yes. It has MIDI in and out, so you can switch presets from a controller or sync it with a rig.
What effects are included?
Six stereo reverbs, a noise gate, EQ, and modulation such as flanger, phaser and tremolo. There is no full pedal-chain modeling.
