Is the PAX worth it over a custom closet?

Yes if you want adjustable storage at a fraction of custom-closet cost. A custom built-in fits odd spaces better and uses sturdier materials, but costs several times more.

How does PAX compare with IKEA's smaller wardrobes?

PAX is the full modular system, so you can size it to the wall and change the interior later. Smaller lines like BRIMNES are fixed designs and cheaper but far less flexible.

Do I need to anchor it to the wall?

Yes. IKEA requires tall PAX frames to be secured to the wall with the included fittings. This matters most with heavy mirror doors and in homes with children.

Can I buy the frame and doors separately?

Yes. PAX frames, doors, hinges and interior organizers are sold individually, so you can build a cheaper combination or add pieces later.

What is included in this combination?

A combination typically bundles the frame, hinged mirror door, hinges and a set of interior organizers. Check the specific combination's parts list, since contents vary by combination.

When is the PAX cheapest?

IKEA runs periodic wardrobe and storage sales, often around seasonal events. With only one store listing this combination at $1,520.77 as of November 4, 2026, compare against building the same parts directly from IKEA.

Our take on the IKEA PAX Wardrobe Combination

The PAX is IKEA's modular wardrobe system: a frame plus interior organizers and doors, sold here as a combination with a mirror door in white. Its appeal is the fit-to-your-space design and the deep accessory ecosystem, not premium materials. The best new price is $1,520.77 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, with only one store listing it new, so there is no competitive spread to shop. That price sits at the top of what a PAX combination typically costs, since most builds land well under this once you pick a plain frame and basic doors.
