Our take on the IKEA UPPLAND Sofa with chaise

The IKEA UPPLAND is a two-seat sofa with a chaise, built on the same silhouette as the long-running Ektorp. It has deep 22 7/8-inch seat cushions, reversible back cushions and a removable, washable polyester cover in Blekinge white. The frame is particleboard, so this is a comfort-first sofa rather than a heirloom piece. Its best price is $899 at ModeSens as of the latest listing, against a recent daily range of $849 to $899.

Best forLounging and lying down rather than sitting uprightHouseholds with kids or pets that need washable coversBuyers who want the Ektorp look with deeper seats
Small-to-mid living rooms that fit an 88-inch sofa
Pros
  • Deep 22 7/8-inch seats suit lying down and curling up
  • Removable, machine-washable polyester covers
  • Reversible back cushions wear more evenly
  • Same silhouette as the popular Ektorp, so slipcovers and styling are familiar
  • Quick assembly, around 10 minutes
  • 6 3/4-inch legs leave room to vacuum underneath
Cons
  • Particleboard frame is not built for decades of use
  • Tightly woven polyester can feel warm and pill over time
  • White Blekinge cover shows stains and dirt quickly
  • 88 1/4-inch width needs a fair amount of wall space
  • Only two seats plus chaise, so limited seating for guests

Questions and answers

Is the UPPLAND worth it?
If you want a deep, lounge-friendly sofa with washable covers at under $1,000, it is a reasonable buy. Expect a particleboard frame, so treat it as a five-to-ten-year sofa rather than a long-term investment.
How does it compare to the Ektorp?
It shares the Ektorp silhouette but has deeper seat cushions and a more generous, embracing feel. The Ektorp is the firmer, more upright option; the UPPLAND is the one to lie down on.
Are the covers really washable?
Yes. The polyester Blekinge cover is removable and machine-washable, which is the main reason buyers with kids or pets choose it. Follow IKEA's care label and expect some fading over repeated washes.
Will it fit my room?
It is 88 1/4 inches wide, 36 1/4 inches deep and 36 1/4 inches tall, with a 22 7/8-inch seat depth. Measure your wall and doorway first, since the chaise makes it bulky to move.
What is in the box?
The sofa ships flat-packed with the frame, cushions, cover and legs, and assembly takes about 10 minutes. You will need to fit the cover and attach the legs yourself.
When is it cheapest?
The lowest recent daily price was $849 on October 31, 2026, against $899 on October 30. IKEA sofas typically dip during seasonal sales, so watch for those windows.
