Is a top entry litter box worth it?

It helps most with tracking and with dogs or toddlers getting into the box. If your cat is large, senior or a poor jumper, a low-entry box is the safer choice.

Will my cat fit through the 9.25-inch opening?

Most average-size cats pass through easily. Cats over about 15 pounds, or ones with mobility issues, may find it tight.

How often should I clean it?

Scoop daily and do a full wash of the base and lid every week or two. Lift the lid off for a full clean; the top does not hinge.

Does it control odor?

Only partly. The cover traps some smell, but there is no filter, so regular scooping and a good clumping litter matter more.

What comes in the box?

The base, the catching lid and a litter scoop. Litter is not included.

The best new price was $27.99 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026. Top entry boxes often dip during pet-supply sales, so check the price history before buying.

Our take on the IRIS Large Top Entry Cat Litter Box with Catching Lid and Scoop

The IRIS Top Entry Cat Litter Box is a covered plastic box that cats enter from the top through a 9.25-inch round opening. The lid has a grooved surface that catches litter off paws, and a scoop is included. It measures 20.5 by 14.75 inches outside, with a smaller 15 by 9.75-inch floor inside. At $27.99 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it is the only new price listed and sits at the low end of what top-entry boxes cost.
