Our take on the Iron Out Rust Stain Remover Powder, 28 oz

Iron Out is a powdered rust and iron stain remover for laundry, toilets, sinks, tubs and other hard surfaces. It works by dissolving iron and rust deposits rather than scrubbing them away, and the unscented 28 oz tub makes many doses. As of November 4, 2026, the best new price is $18.03 at Walmart, the only store pricing it new, so there is no cheaper alternative to compare against right now.

Questions and answers

Is Iron Out worth it?
If you fight rust or iron stains from well water, it is one of the most reliable powders for the job and a 28 oz tub covers many uses. At $18.03 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, the cost per cleaning is low.
How do I use it in a toilet or sink?
Sprinkle a small amount into the bowl or on the stain, add hot water, let it sit, then scrub and rinse. For heavy rust, repeat or leave it longer, but do not let it sit on metal fixtures.
Can I use it on colored clothes?
Test on a hidden spot first. It is safest on whites and colorfast fabrics; it can fade some dyes and damage wool, silk or delicate items.
Does it work in a washing machine?
Yes. Add it to the wash with detergent for iron-stained loads, and run a cleaning cycle in an empty machine to clear rust buildup. Follow the label dose.
Is it safe for septic systems and pipes?
It is generally used in household plumbing and septic systems at label doses. Avoid mixing it with bleach or other cleaners, which can release dangerous fumes.
When is the price lowest?
There is only one new-price listing now, $18.03 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026. Watch for multipacks and seasonal cleaning sales, which often beat the single-tub price.
Where is the Iron Out Rust Stain Remover Powder, 28 oz cheapest?
At Walmart, for $18.03, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Iron Out Rust Stain Remover Powder, 28 oz?
Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 1,800 ratings.
