Is 0.5mm too thin for daily wear?

It is on the fine side. It holds up for everyday wear if you are not hard on jewelry, but it is not the chain for sleeping in or for a heavy pendant. A firm tug can bend or break the links.

Is 10K gold real gold?

Yes. 10K means 10 parts gold out of 24, about 41.7% gold mixed with other metals. It is real gold, but the yellow color is lighter than 14K and it is more durable than higher karats.

Will it fit a pendant?

The box links are small, so only a fine jump ring or a pendant with a thin bail will thread on. Check the bail opening before buying a charm for it.

What is the difference between this and a 14K box chain?

14K has more gold, so it costs more and looks a bit richer in color. 10K is harder and cheaper, which is why this chain is priced where it is.

Is $176 a good price?

Only one store lists it new at $176 as of November 5, 2026, so there is no competing price to compare against. Check the per-gram gold price before buying, since thin 10K chains are often priced well above their metal value.

The necklace itself. Kay sells it as a single chain, and gift packaging depends on the seller, so confirm with Amazon if you need a box for a gift.

Our take on the Kay Jewelers Solid 10K Yellow Gold Box Chain Necklace

A solid 10K yellow gold box chain from Kay Jewelers, 0.5mm wide and 18 inches long, closed with a spring-ring clasp. The box links give it a squarer, more structured look than a rope or cable chain, and solid gold means it will not tarnish or flake like plated jewelry. At 0.5mm it is a fine, delicate chain, so it suits small pendants or wearing alone. The best new price is $176 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to shop around.
