Is the $350 price a purchase price or a rental rate?

It is a rental rate from 66 Equipment Rental as of November 4, 2026, not a sale price. A new KX040-5 typically sells for tens of thousands of dollars, so confirm the rental period and terms before booking.

How does the KX040-5 compare with the KX040-4?

The -5 update brought a redesigned cab, a standard backup camera and updated emissions controls. Digging depth, weight and hydraulic flow are close between the two, so a clean used -4 is worth considering if price matters.

What can the auxiliary hydraulics run?

The 17.2 gpm auxiliary circuit powers augers, hydraulic breakers, thumbs and similar attachments. Flow is one-way or two-way depending on how the machine is plumbed, so check the attachment's requirements first.

What is included with the rental?

The listing includes the excavator with coupler and modem; buckets and attachments rent separately. Confirm whether the hydraulic thumb, trailer and fuel are part of the rate.

Can it fit through a standard residential gate?

At 66.9 in wide it fits most double gates and many single gates of 6 ft or more. Measure the opening and check overhead clearance against the 97.6 in height before committing.

When is the price lowest?

Rental rates tend to drop in winter and on multi-day or weekly bookings. Ask about off-season and long-term rates rather than assuming the listed daily figure is fixed.

Our take on the Kubota KXO40-5

The Kubota KX040-5 is a 4-ton enclosed-cab mini excavator with a 40.3 HP diesel engine and about 11 ft 2 in of digging depth. It runs a hydraulic thumb, quick coupler, auxiliary hydraulics and a backup camera, and its 66.9 in width and 12.99 in ground clearance let it work tight sites without giving up reach. The best new price is $350 at 66 Equipment Rental as of November 4, 2026, and that figure reflects a rental rate rather than a purchase price. Two stores list it new, so compare what each quote covers before booking.
