Our take on the La-Z-Boy Trouper 3 Piece Reclining Sectional

The La-Z-Boy Trouper is a three-piece reclining sectional built for five, with a 102-inch square footprint and a deep 49-inch seat depth. It uses a metal frame and reclining mechanisms, and La-Z-Boy says assembly takes under 15 minutes. It is a large, comfort-first piece aimed at family rooms rather than small apartments.

Questions and answers

Is the La-Z-Boy Trouper sectional worth it?
It is worth it if you have a large room and want five reclining seats in one piece. If space is tight or you rarely recline, a smaller non-reclining sectional costs less and fits more rooms.
How much space does it need?
The footprint is 102 by 102 inches, and the reclining backs need clearance behind them. Measure your room and doorways before ordering, since the three pieces arrive separately.
Does it really assemble in 15 minutes?
La-Z-Boy states assembly takes less than 15 minutes. Expect to attach the pieces and legs; the reclining mechanisms come pre-built in each section.
How many people does it seat?
Five. The three pieces are arranged as a sectional, so seating is spread across the run rather than in five equal seats.
Is the seat deep enough for tall people?
The 49-inch seat depth is very deep, which suits tall sitters and lounging. Shorter sitters may need a pillow behind them to sit upright.
When is the best time to buy?
La-Z-Boy and furniture retailers discount most around major holiday sales and at model changeovers. Check the price history on this page before buying.
