Our take on the Latex Mattress Topper Organic Cotton Case Medium Firm The Futon Shop

This is a 2-inch Dunlop latex topper from The Futon Shop with an organic cotton cover, sold in five sizes from Twin to Cal King. It is medium firm, so it adds a little cushioning and a firmer, springier feel rather than a deep sink-in. Latex is dense and breathable, and the organic cotton case is a plus for shoppers avoiding foams and chemical finishes. It is a modest 2 inches, so it softens a hard mattress more than it transforms a soft one.

Best forBack sleepers on a too-firm mattressShoppers avoiding memory foam and synthetic foamsHot sleepers who want a breathable, springy surfacePeople who want a small amount of give, not a plush pillow top
Pros
  • Dunlop latex is durable and holds its shape better than polyfoam
  • Medium firm adds support without a deep sink
  • Organic cotton cover and certified organic materials
  • Breathable and cooler than memory foam
  • Handcrafted, chemical-free build
Cons
  • Only 2 inches, so limited cushioning for side sleepers
  • Latex feels bouncy and can be too firm for soft-mattress owners
  • Heavy and awkward to move and rotate
  • Latex allergy makes it unsuitable
  • Costs more than a foam topper of the same thickness

Questions and answers

Is this topper worth it?
If your mattress is too firm and you want a small amount of springy cushioning with organic materials, yes. If you want a plush, deep sink-in layer, 2 inches of medium-firm latex will disappoint.
Will it make my mattress softer?
Only slightly. Medium-firm Dunlop latex adds a firm, resilient layer, so it takes the edge off a hard mattress rather than making a soft one softer.
Is it good for side sleepers?
Usually not enough on its own. Side sleepers need more give at the shoulder and hip, and 2 inches of medium-firm latex may leave pressure points.
Does it sleep cool?
Yes, relatively. Latex is open-celled and the organic cotton cover breathes, so it runs cooler than memory foam.
What sizes are available?
Twin, Full Double, Queen, Eastern King and Cal King. Check your mattress dimensions, since Eastern King and Cal King are different widths.
When is it cheapest?
Latex toppers rarely see deep discounts, but The Futon Shop runs periodic sales around holidays. Watch the price history for a dip rather than buying at full price.
