How long does it take to start flowing?

Expect roughly 1 to 2 hours after switching it on for the wax to heat and form blobs. It flows faster in a warm room and slower in a cold one.

Is it safe for a kid's room?

No. It is labeled for adults and not for children under 14. The glass globe and the hot 100-watt bulb make it a poor fit for a young child's room.

Can I use an LED bulb in it?

It is built around a 100-watt incandescent bulb, which provides the heat the wax needs. An LED gives off little heat, so the lamp likely will not flow properly.

No. The switch is rotary and push-button only, and brightness is not adjustable.

The listing gives a height of 29 inches and a width of 10.5 inches, though the name says 11.5 inches. Check the dimensions before you buy if space is tight.

Our take on the Lava Lamp 11.5"

The Lava Lamp 11.5" is the classic liquid-and-wax lamp: a glass globe on an aluminum base, lit by a 100-watt incandescent bulb that warms the wax so it rises and falls. It is a decoration and night light for a bedroom, not a reading lamp, and it is not meant for children under 14. At $36.99 at P. Cottontail & Co. as of November 5, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare it against.
