Is the M14d worth it over a cheaper 1080p portable monitor?

If you want sharper text and accurate sRGB color, yes. The 2240 x 1400 panel is noticeably denser than 1080p at 14 inches. For basic spreadsheets, a 1080p model saves money.

Does it work with a laptop that has no USB-C port?

Not directly. It has only USB-C inputs, so you need a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, or an adapter. There is no HDMI input.

Can I power it from a wall charger instead of my laptop?

Yes. One USB-C port can take power while the other carries video, so a charger or power bank can run the monitor and reduce drain on the laptop battery.

How bright is it, and can I use it outdoors?

It is rated at 300 nits. That is fine indoors but weak in direct sunlight or a bright cafe window.

Lenovo ships the monitor with a USB-C cable and documentation. A power adapter is not included, so plan on using your laptop's charger or a separate USB-C charger.
