Is the XT801 worth it over buying tools separately?

A combo kit usually costs less than the same tools bought one by one, and you get batteries and a charger in one purchase. If you only need a drill and driver, a smaller kit is cheaper.

Do the batteries fit other Makita tools?

Yes. The 18V LXT batteries work in Makita's LXT bare tools, so you can add tools later without buying new batteries.

How many batteries come in the kit?

Two 18V lithium-ion batteries, plus a charger. With eight tools, expect to swap and recharge during longer projects.

Is this kit brushless?

Most tools in this bundle use standard motors rather than Makita's brushless line. Brushless versions run longer per charge but cost more.

When is the price lowest?

Combo kits tend to drop during holiday sales and Makita promotions. Check the price history before buying to see if the current price is near its low.

Our take on the Makita 18V LXT Cordless 8-Piece Combo Kit (XT801)

The Makita XT801 bundles eight 18V LXT tools: a drill-driver, impact driver, circular saw, blower, flashlight, and three more tools, plus two lithium-ion batteries, a charger and a tool bag. It runs on Makita's LXT battery platform, so the batteries work across a large lineup of bare tools. The kit suits someone starting a tool collection or a homeowner who wants one battery system for drilling, cutting and cleanup. Package weight is about 39 lbs, so it is a garage kit rather than a grab-and-go bag.
